Camp Flog Gnaw

Identity, Fashion, Packaging, Print, Typography

Camp Flog Gnaw is a mix of a state fair (games and rides) and an alternative hip-hop concert. The founder, Tyler, the Creator, created the festival to be something that does not take itself seriously. As an avid attendee, I strived to capture the feeling of being spontaneously present in the moment, as it inspires others creatively to transcend racial diversity, fashion, and music taste.

For a hypothetical rebrand, the mascot logo uses Tyler, the Creator's, 2015, Cherry Bomb album as the illustration style in taking the expression and putting it in the context of a spiky sun which is reflective of sunny Los Angeles, where the festival is held. In addition, naming it La Bombe Solaire which is French for the Solar Bomb.

I designed a custom-modified typeface called Theme, using existing typeface Solange. I changed the counters, serifs, and terminals to have a more friendly and expressive tone.

To truly encapsulate Tyler, the Creator the brand identity's primary colors are based off of his discography of albums and songs.

I created various characters using the Cherry Bomb album as illustration style with different organic shapes and expressions to showcase diversity and different moods called copains which is French for friends.

The copains are assigned to represent specific team members from the festival by using the primary colors and names from Tyler, the Creator's discography.

For badges, there are two types: lanyard and clip-on. The clip is beneficial for production and medical team members so it does not interfere with their work.

Most of the designs are logo emphasized because the name is what is most easily recognizable about the festival and helps across all promotion.

LA Metro transit system partnered ads, bus ads, and wheatpastesThe photographic style creates a sense of nostalgia with its film quality and high saturation. It is taken from the perspective of a festival goer, as the festival is a fun family of friends experience. Capturing those candid and realistic moments.

Festival Art InstallationA timeline of Tyler, the Creator’s eras + albums + discography.

Using the copains as the installation shape base, they each showcase visuals from specific and individual albums. On top of the visuals, I included flashing type of the typeface I created for the identity system naming the year, songs, and album. This timeline provides the audience with a visual representation of how far Tyler, the Creator has progressed and how his style and artistry has changed over his career.
